Sheldon MacDonald stresses the importance of diversification during FTAdviser podcast
Sheldon MacDonald, Marlborough’s Chief Investment Officer of Multi-Asset, has emphasised the importance of portfolio diversification during an FTAdviser podcast.
He quoted Nobel Prize-winning economist Harry Markowitz, who described diversification as ‘the only free lunch in investing’.
Sheldon added that during market volatility staying invested for the long-term in risk-appropriate multi-asset portfolios was the most sensible approach for investors.
He concluded by saying that, on average, bull markets are significantly longer than bear markets, and deliver positive returns that substantially outweigh bear market falls. He added that glimmers of hope were beginning to emerge and there were reasons for investors to be positive.
