Eustace Santa Barbara highlights opportunities in ‘lab-grown’ meat

2 MIN

Marlborough UK Micro-Cap Growth Co-Manager Eustace Santa Barbara has spoken to Investment Week about why the fund is backing Agronomics, an AIM-listed company that invests in businesses in the field of cellular agriculture.

This includes companies producing ‘lab-grown’ meat, where scientists grow meat using cells taken from a sample of animal tissue.

Eustace says the process has huge potential advantages, using half the energy of conventional food production methods. It needs a fraction of the land and water used in traditional farming and greenhouse gas emissions are estimated to be around 95% lower.

His comments appear in a ‘deep dive’ article about the prospects for UK smaller companies. While the piece says investors remain wary, it quotes one commentator who says UK small caps now represent a ‘very attractive valuation opportunity’.
